closet homosexual kennedy turned on by nude cowen portrait
The pictures were hung in early March. RTÉ 9 o'clock news ran this on Monday night.
I saw it in the The Tribune on Sunday, had a good laugh and forgot about it.
On Tuesday (yesterday) the Gardaí raided TodayFM offices demanding information about the artist. Apparently there had been correspondence with the Ray d'Arcy show... a whole three weeks after the paintings had been hung and subsequently removed.
The Press Secretary of Fianna Fáil with an annoying Irish name I won't even print because you can't pronounce it called the Director General of RTÉ, Cáthal Goan, and suggested to him that RTÉ News should apologise for reporting what the Tribune had already run. Sadly, RTÉ did apologise on Tuesday night and it was absolutely wrong to do so.
Since then, the story has been picked up on the front pages of the NY and London Times.
Michael Kennedy, jowelly Fianna Fáil back bencher since 2007, is the idiot who has been bashing this story and splashing over just about every media channel I have heard today, spouting on about the injustice and the disrespect to the office of the Taoiseach.
This morning he demanded on the Today show on Radio 1 that RTÉ was wrong to report this because he doesn't consider it news even they'd already issued the apology on the news the night before. He batted away suggestions that all political leaders have to endure political satire all the time, and that in a democracy you can't gag these things. There was talk about the Copenhagen cartoons. He denied that his approach was an overreaction. He signed off by saying something to the effect that RTÉ should be careful about what it deems news and how it reports on government figures.
And it's suddenly dawned on me why Michael Kennedy has reacted so strongly to this story. It's not because he wants to be a junior minister. It's not because he really believes that this is an offensive story. The poor man is clearly uncomfortable because he felt stirrings in his loins when he saw the portraits, and he's angry now because he thinks he might be homosexual but has been denying it all these years. He carries on about poor Brian Cowen and Mrs. Cowen and The Cowen Kids and Mama Cowen and how they must feel... but we all know it's window dressing. He's diverting attention away from the fact that he got a huge stiffy seeing a painting of the very thing he's been fantasizing about: Cowen's man-boobs.
Excuse me, Mr. Kennedy, but just because you are uncomfortable with your sexuality doesn't mean that you can suggest that the state broadcaster will now operate as state broadcasters under doctatorial regimes operate, under intense censorship.
Way to go, Michael. Once again you've helped Fianna Fáil turn Ireland into a world-wide laughing stock.
